The Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara Oak 2017 Edition 750ml
An 18 year old malt from the oldest whisky distillery in Japan. In order to create the expression, Suntory’s chief blender Shinji Fukuyo tasted a hundreds of Mizunara oak-aged whiskies and selected casks aged between 18 to 50 years old. Mizunara oak is incredibly rare.
“I wanted to reveal the whisky’s soul that is the Art of Mizunara — a heightened sense and awakened palate engaged through aromas and flavors never known before. Encountering it should be a moment of epiphany.”

Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara Oak 2017-
“An incredibly rare and sought-after release from pioneering Japanese distiller Yamazaki. Created by master blender Shinji Fukuyo using Yamazaki’s decades of experience with mizunara – Japanese oak – and whiskies from 18 to 50 years of age, this very limited release showcases the wood’s unique effect on maturing spirit. Layers of exotic spices and incense notes mingle with fruit: a masterclass in Japanese whisky.”
Yamazaki was founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923. The town of Yamazaki was chosen to be the site of Japan’s first commercial distillery due to its very ‘Scottish’ climate, and with it being an area where three rivers converge. In its early days, Yamazaki produced both malt and grain for Suntory’s blends, but the opening of the Chita distillery in 1972 allowed the company to focus on its single malt brand. It is now one of the world’s most desirable. The first spirit ran from the stills in 1924, on 11th November at 11:11am.
